Well, its been 9 months since our move to Moab, and I can finally say that our house is starting to feel more like a home. More like us. We still have projects and plans, but it is starting to take shape. And that makes me excited. This is our 5th home in the last 10 years. (and Im not moving again!)

To give you a bit of background on this… my dear friend Chelsey (who lives in Fairbanks, Alaska!) and I had been texting eachother- and bouncing ideas off each other. (It is such fun to have a friend to randomly text a wall gallery to!) She had the wonderful idea to put together a blog post about how we display our photos!

For me, I would love to live in one of those wonderful homes you’d see in a Pottery Barn catalog. Everything perfectly decorated. But… thats just not real life. At least, not for me. I’m usually on a budget, and saving for the next big project. ;)  Not to mention, in order to get to a Target, Walmart or craft store, I have to drive an hour and a half each way. That doesnt make it too easy to ‘run to the store’ and pick something up. Luckily, over the last several years I have collected, thrifted and decorated for our homes. That meant I did have some things to chose from.

I have a lot of wall space- and that meant a blank canvas! Especially this wall. Its LONG. I knew I had to go big! So I chose three 30×40 frames. To put that into perpective, this is almost as tall as my 6 year old!  I purchased the frames from Ikea  for $25 each. It may feel intimidating to go this large, but as you can see- this really makes a statement!

Here is my second wall gallery. The space isnt nearly as large, but it felt kind of weird hanging a random 8×10. Plus, with 3 kiddos, how could I chose just one? So, I decided to rummage through all my frames and put together a collage. After a quick white coat of spray paint, they were all ready. I laid the frames out on the floor and took a photo. Using the photo as my guide, I started hanging them up. There are so many wonderful methods of hanging gallery photos out there, but I was in a time crunch. So, I just hammered in the general area and hoped for the best. I would definently not do that on every gallery, but I wanted this to be a little asymmetrical / uneven. And I only ended up with a few extra nail holes. ;)

Be sure to pop on over to Chelsey’s amazing blog and see her awesome wall gallery!! You can find it here!

We made it!! | Moab Portrait Photographer

Friday, June 29th, 2012

Well, that was quite the break, wasnt it?! I cant believe it- we are here!

Last October we decided to make a huge life change. Our little family decided to leave the one place my children and I have ever called home, Salt Lake City (the Mr has lived in other places). We decided to put our home up for sale and head south to Moab. Within 8 weeks, we were packing boxes and heading south. It was nothing short of crazy! But here we are… settled (but not 100% unpacked!) and loving life! Moab is such an incredible place… and we have had some pretty amazing adventures! (Which are coming up!)

Today, I decided to document my day.  Ava is 18 months. Busy, and always looking for an adventure. A counter to climb, wipes to pull out of the case… or full cups of water to dump over. She is hardly still. Thats what I love so much about her. She is truly her own little person. I also know how quickly this stage passes. When my older girls were this age, I thought it would never pass. I thought I’d never be able to take a shower in peace.  Now, I know. I know that in a blink of an eye she will be entering the 3rd grade. Her hands will grow, and no longer want to hold mine. These are the things I want to hold on to. This is what makes each day a treasure.

She’s here!

She is here! Our little Ava has arrived. She was born Dec 22 weighing in at 6 lbs 15 oz and 19.5 inches long. We were even able to come home for Christmas. I couldnt have asked for a better present. I cant believe its been a month since her arrival. We are finally settling into (somewhat) of a routine- and even nights aren’t too bad. She is up about every 3 hours to feed, but (for the most part) goes right back to sleep. My older girls just love her. They are so eager to help- and have done such a great job. (though I did catch my 4 year old picking her up after I changed her diaper and went to wash my hands… I looked up and she was holding her up over the hardwood floors. eek! We had to have the ‘you can only hold her when sitting down and mommy hands her to you’ talk again.) ;)

I also wanted to say a huge thank you to my family and friends. I have been so touched at the outpouring of love shown to us over the past month. Thank you for your emails… I recieved one during a late night feeding – and it made my night! Thank you for the meals… They came at just the time I needed it. The gifts. It has been a season of great blessings, and I am thankful – more than you will ever know.

And… because I know you all are waiting… here she is!! (These are just a few I’ve taken… I still have piles of photos to go through and edit.)

um… its been a while!

Yikes! My poor neglected blog! I cant believe its almost been a month since I last blogged. And, I cant believe we are already in October. September seems like such a blur to me. I try to think back to what has gone on… and playing mommy has been my biggest role. I’ve been getting my oldest adjusted in a new school (and doing homework 5 times a week… really not used to that one!), getting my 4 year old in preschool, and getting into our new place. (which has turned into a  nightmare) I took some time off in September… trying to rest. I’ve still been sick with this pregnancy, and I think that our crazy life finally caught up with me. ;) But with less than 12 weeks left… we are finally on the home stretch. (also thinking about doing a hypnobirth. anyone tried that? I’ve had epidural complications in the past, and that will be my last resort.)

I was able to take a good day and use it to capture some shots of my quickly growing girls. These are birthday/school photos. We usually just get the basic school photo package, so my kids can have a class picture. We got the school pictures today. I had to laugh out loud. I forgot it was picture day. I sent my daughter to school in a polka dot fleece pull over. She found it that morning and begged to wear it. We were running late. And now… its immortalized. Second, I didnt realize how much the photo didnt reflect her. Not at all. So, I was so happy to  have gotten out to do these. :)

Note to clients: I have one session left for October. My last shooting day will be October 22. Contact me asap if you would like this spot!

and a few others from September

playing catch up…

Monday, July 12th, 2010

So much to catch up on lately! I can say that Im finally ‘back’. I took a bit of time off – as I havent been feeling very well. Im still working to find a combination of foods that dont make me sick. So far… dry cereal, fruit, and avocado + tomato sandwiches on whole grain bread have topped the list. (mmmm… and did I mention just how lovely avocado + tomato sandwiches are?? With a tall glass of ice cold water – and a freshly sliced lemon…) Things are looking up, and I dont take for granted the days that are ‘normal’. How wonderful the mundane can be. :)

I did get the opportunity to photograph this sweet little guy. Oh he was just adorable!

And today… my baby turned 4. I cant believe it. She is still so little, but has such a big heart. She teaches me about unconditional love. For her birthday, my husband and I made homemade ice cream. We made a strawberry-vanilla, and an orange-lemon gelato. Then… I was inspired by my friend Shannon. She makes her kids amazing cakes each year. I decided that this year… I wouldnt do a Costco cake. No… I’d make one. And… it looked like this. Seriously guys, dont judge. ;) I am a horrible cook!!

Just a few more from today…
Cutting the strawberries for the ice cream.

Jumping in the grass…

The birthday girl… (dad this is for you!)
